A letterpress printing poetry book. The book itself is drumleaf bound, and the spine has been left exposed. The cover is made with velour paper, and the pages inside are a thin pink paper. The poster is made using newsprint. Both are completely handprinted using either lead type, wood type, or printed polymer plates. Inside the book is a series of photographs of diary pages with selected text letterpress printed on top of them. The book begins and ends with a short poem.

A photograph of a plain white wall with pieces of paper on it. One is a white page with a color coded character map that was used to organize my thesis book. The second is a sheet of pink paper showing the letterpress printed cover of my thesis book. In black, the text reads: The Modern Maiden's Guide to Grief, Misery and Other Misfortunes'. There is a significant gap, and then the same type reads: by sarah bat. The final sheet of paper is a white and green hospital letterhead, with an illustration of the medical staff symbol on it. It is for the fictional 'Mt Olympus Hospital' and was designed by me for my thesis book.

A fanned out stack of copies of 'The Modern Maiden's Guide' on a pink fleece blanket patterned with valentine hearts. The book is pink with black type, and is a soft-touch paperback.

in addition to my written work i turned in, i presented my thesis to a panel of judges and peers in a room decorated to suit the theme of my work. these photos also feature the additional visual aids i made for other classes and some images of in progress works on the walls. documentation by Mario Galluci at PNCA.

The same valentine heart print blanket is seen, and the spines of the book can always be spotted in the background of this photo. The main part of the photograph is a stack of small white cardboard boxes. They have black and white label sticksers on them that read 'Mt Olympus Archives' on them in pink glitter pen.

A close up of a single partially open Mount Olympus Archives box. The black and white label sticker is made to look like a metal label holder on an old filing cabinet.

An illustrated, handmade packet of flower seeds. The package is yellow with green edges, and a teal oval in the center. In the oval is an illustration of a pink and yellow snapdragon flower. The same flowers and green leaves peek out from behind the oval. Behind the seed packet is a dark pink blank post it.

Created for my senior thesis project, The Modern Maiden's Guide is a self published work of hybrid fiction. It explores the grief, trauma, mental illness, and other less talked about issues faced by women and people of multiple marginalized identities through the lens of modernized classics, myths, and fairytales.

A cardboard textured book cover. It has a simple illustration of a pink ribbon on it, made to appear as if it were tied around the box. The cover is handwritten and says, in black, 'in a box; under the bed: epistolary poems by Sarah Bat'

in a box; under the bed
march 2016
A self published book of epistolary poems. A very personal look into my life and relationships, hence the title, which indicates this work is much like a box of letters you might find beneath my bed.

2016
a blog containing multiple written works, meant to explore the idea of a 'poetry persona'. i crafted this blog to act as the online presence of the self i feel i create and put forward through my work. while treated as a fiction/a character, everything written on the site was a true reflection of my life and feelings
